Pesticides on Our Food?

A news release yesterday sited information from government tests on the amount of pesticides found on fruits and vegetables. More than 2/3 of the tested fruits and vegetables did not contain pesticides. The other portion tested could contain up to 9 different pesticides in a single serving. Rather than listing the "Dirty Dozen" fruits and vegetables, I want to emphasize today how to wash all produce properly.

Simply by washing produce under RUNNING water can remove dirt, bacteria, and most pesticide residue. Using a vegetable brush on firm fruit with a quick brushing motion while holding the produce in the running water.  Next, spray a solution of vinegar and water on the produce to remove the remaining pesticide residue.

So the 2 things we all need to keep by the sink :
vegetable brush and spray bottle of vinegarH2O.

Now that is living health!

I'm terrible at washing my fruits and veggies. It's something I really need to work on.
